Boarding House Experience

Life as a boarder is an exciting and enriching way for your child to experience their camp. Through this they will learn how to live with others, work as a team whilst being part of a secure and loyal community which will enable them to form friendships and memories lasting way beyond their camp days. The daily routine of boarders is carefully managed by the Housemasters and Housemistresses to ensure pupils develop the independence needed to thrive, both in their time at Epsom and after. They are well supported through their challenging moments by House staff, whose safe structures and endless guidance helps to provide an environment that feels like home.

How much spending money should my child bring to the camp?
The amount of spending money your child should bring to the camp can vary depending on personal preferences and the activities available. We recommend RM50 -100 per day, or RM300 (min.) for the entirety of the camp.
What is the process for exchanging money at the camp?
If possible, please do exchange to Malaysian Ringgit before attending the camp. Avoid last-minute exchanges at the airport, as it is very expensive, we will have an exchange counter open at Epsom once they come in for the camp.
Can my child use a debit card during the camp?
Debit cards are highly recommended for use in Malaysia due to their wide acceptance. They allow parents to monitor their child's spending and top-up as needed, facilitating oversight of expenses. While on excursions, it's important to note that spending decisions are personal to each family and beyond our control.
What is the procedure if my child tests positive for COVID-19 during the camp?
Nurses to verify first and inform parents. If the symptoms worsen, we'll refer to a doctor and hospitalise if required.

What happens if my daughter has her period during the camp?
For younger students, if they're on their period we usually get them to relax for the session and not do anything too exhausting, but if they are able to, we will find them something else to do.
What kind of food will be provided at the camp? Are dietary restrictions accommodated?
The food provided at the camp will be made to the liking of the kids - our focus is to create a balance between taste and nutritious meals. Please do note, students may struggle in the first week with food as it is cooked in a different style. Any specific dietary needs or restrictions when registering, so appropriate arrangements can be made.
What kind of supervision will there be at the camp?
The camp will have qualified staff members and counsellors who will provide supervision and guidance to the campers throughout the programme. The level of supervision may vary depending on the age group and specific activities. The safety and well-being of the campers are a top priority for the camp organisers.
What measures are in place to ensure the safety of the campers?
Camps prioritise the safety of their participants and typically have safety measures in place. These may include trained staff, emergency protocols, security measures, and appropriate supervision during activities. It's advisable to review the camp's safety policies or contact the organisers for specific information regarding the safety measures in place.
What happens in the case of bad weather?
We have contingency plans for bad weather. Alternatives such as indoor activities, alternative programme schedules, or sheltered spaces are available. The camp organisers will prioritise the safety and well-being of the campers and make necessary adjustments to ensure a positive camp experience despite inclement weather.
What are the health and safety policies?
This serves as a guideline to minimise the risk of infectious diseases and foster responsible health practices. Whilst we respect each family's personal choices, we highly recommend, in the interests of everyone's health and well-being, that all eligible attendees receive both the COVID-19 and annual flu vaccinations prior to attending the camp. Regardless of vaccination status, we will carry out comprehensive health and safety measures, which include but not limited to: 1. Regular cleaning and sanitisation of common areas and surfaces. 2. Promoting regular hand-washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. 3. Provision of hand sanitiser throughout the camp. 4. Education on good cough and sneeze etiquette. 5. Monitoring the health conditions of all attendees.
What is the medical policy?
All medications, including prescription and over-the-counter, must be submitted to the designated medical or house staff upon arrival at the camp. Parents/guardians should provide detailed instructions, including dosage, frequency, and any special considerations. Medications will be securely stored and dispensed only by authorised staff, and students are not permitted to self-administer medications except in exceptional circumstances with prior written consent from parents/guardians. Emergency medications like epinephrine auto-injectors or asthma inhalers must be carried by authorised students at all times, with the designated staff informed of these students and their medications. In the event of a medical emergency, the designated medical staff will assess the situation and provide necessary first aid and medical care, promptly notifying parents/guardians about the situation and actions taken. If emergency medical treatment or hospitalisation is required, the designated medical staff will accompany the student to the medical facility and provide necessary support, ensuring parents/guardians are immediately informed and involved in the decision-making process. Parents/guardians must provide accurate and up-to-date information regarding their child's medical conditions, allergies, and medications during the registration process and promptly communicate any changes to the camp's designated medical staff. Consent for medication administration and emergency medical care is included in the registration process and must be reviewed and approved by parents/guardians. Additionally, parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring that all medications provided to the camp are within their expiry dates and properly labelled with the student's name, dosage, and instructions.

Discipline Policies: If a student's behaviour violates expectations, disciplinary actions such as verbal warnings, time-outs, loss of privileges, or temporary separation from activities will be taken. Parents/guardians will be informed of significant issues. For ongoing challenges, behaviour improvement plans may be developed with parents/guardians. In severe or repeated instances where a camper's behaviour poses a risk to their own safety or that of others, the camp reserves the right to expel the camper after providing prior notification to the parents or guardians.
